Lot 771:
Description
This nineteenth-century American primitive corner cupboard is constructed from softwood and designed as a single-piece unit intended to fit into a ninety-degree corner. The piece features a wide, flat top frieze above four fixed interior shelves. The exterior and interior surfaces exhibit an early multi-layered painted finish, with a primary layer of red oxide paint over an older sage-green or gray base. The back is composed of wide vertical planks secured with nails. The cupboard stands on a simple base formed by the continuation of the side panels. No maker marks, labels, or signatures are visible on any surface.
