Description

This group of fraternal regalia belongs to the Knights Templar and is specific to Adrian Commandery No. 4. The set includes a fatigue-style cap, a decorative leather belt with sword hangers, and a metal sword chain. The cap features a structured yellow fabric crown and a pleated red silk wrap-around band. The interior is finished with a pleated light blue silk lining. A printed silk label is attached to the center of the crown interior; it consists of a central crest containing the characters THE M C LILLEY & CO. below which a ribbon banner reads COLUMBUS on the left and OHIO. on the right. A faint purple ink stamp below this label reads Schirr. The heavy orange-tanned leather belt features decorative white contrast stitching in linear and diamond patterns. It is fitted with an ornate rectangular adjustment buckle and four cast metal shield-shaped hangers. These hangers depict a knight in full plate armor positioned over a cross and beneath a crown. The main oval belt buckle is cast metal with the characters ADRIAN around the top border and COMMANDERY around the bottom border. The center of the buckle contains a sunburst motif surrounding the Roman numeral IV. The metal sword chain is composed of ornate cylindrical links with a hook attachment at one end for suspending a ceremonial sword.
