Lot 326:
Sold for: $20
Description
This set of architectural salvage comprises a collection of late 19th-century Victorian interior door hardware. The lot includes several rectangular mortise lock assemblies, each featuring a cast iron case with a black japanned finish. Every unit is paired with a spherical doorknob crafted from black glazed porcelain, commonly known as Bennington style, secured to metal spindles. The accompanying rectangular escutcheon plates are decorated with relief-cast scrolling foliate and fleur-de-lis motifs, showing remnants of an original copper or brass wash finish over the base metal. One unit features an escutcheon plate with heavy white paint residue embedded in the recessed areas of the casting. No manufacturer names, patent dates, or model numbers are legible on the exterior of the hardware components.
