Description

A relief-molded earthenware cookie jar designed in the form of a house with architectural detailing. The jar consists of a rectangular base and a lid comprised of two separate interlocking roof sections. A molded chimney is integrated into the right-hand roof section. The piece is finished in a multi-tonal sponged and drip glaze, with cream-tan walls and a mottled dark green roof. A molded sign board on the front facade bears the incised characters COOKIE HOUSE. The base is decorated with molded shrubbery in a dark brown glaze. The door and one window on the front display remnants of cold-painted red decorative outlines. The interior of the vessel and the undersides of the lid are finished in a clear glaze. No maker marks, factory stamps, signatures, or country-of-origin labels are visible on the exterior or the underside of the base. Height: 8.5 inches (measured to the top of the chimney).
