Description

This is an antique manual hand-crank ice cream freezer dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The unit is composed of a cylindrical outer tub finished in blue and white mottled enameled steel, commonly known as graniteware. The interior contains a tinned steel freezing canister. The mechanical assembly features a cast iron bridge that spans the top of the tub, housing a beveled gear system operated by a manual hand-crank with a turned wooden handle grip. The internal mixing mechanism is a two-part dasher system, consisting of a central rotating spindle with horizontal tines and a secondary stationary comb-style dasher designed to scrape the interior walls of the canister and aerate the mixture. The unit is held together by metal brackets that secure the bridge to the outer tub rim. No manufacturer marks are visible on the components. Capacity: Approximately 1 to 2 quarts. in working order. 10.5×8
