Description

36×15 New Haven Clock Co. Anglo-American marquetry wall clock. The rectangular wood case features extensive multi-wood geometric marquetry inlays across the upper cornice, side panels, and base. The architectural design includes two full-length turned columns flanking the central body and three decorative turned finials at the crown. The circular white dial displays black Roman numeral hour markers, a rail-track minute ring, and ornate black spade hands. The dial includes two winding apertures and is set within a brass bezel. Below the dial is a scroll-cut wooden fretwork panel over a purple fabric backing. The lower section of the case contains a hinged glass door. An internal handwritten note on a yellow adhesive paper reads New Haven Anglo American wall clock as found. The backboard is solid wood with a prominent natural knot and various surface marks. The top of the clock features a period field repair using a repurposed lithographed metal tin piece as a hanging bracket, which retains partial text including ER LID AND TWIS and COIN UNDER. The mechanical movement is a spring-driven time and strike mechanism that strikes on an internal bell.
