Lot 266:
Description
24×8 This antique kitchen tool is a primitive cabbage shredder or slaw cutter, characteristic of late 19th to early 20th century Americana. The piece is crafted from a solid hardwood, likely oak, featuring a decorative heart-shaped cutout handle at the apex. The body consists of a flat board with two raised side rails that incorporate turned-wood decorative elements. These rails served as a track for a sliding wooden safety pusher, which is no longer present with the item. A single metal blade is set into the board at a diagonal angle and held in place by five slotted steel screws. The base of the board features a wide, arched cutout. No manufacturer marks, patent dates, or stamps are visible on the wood or the metal blade.
