Description
78 x 78 An antique hand-pieced cotton quilt top from New England. The textile features multiple decorative blocks set within wide sashing made of red cotton fabric. This sashing is printed with a stylized Art Nouveau motif resembling floral and lyre forms in yellow and gray. The individual blocks are hand-pieced from a diverse assortment of period cotton textiles, including calico, shirting, gingham, and striped prints, with several blocks featuring paisley-patterned centers. The item is an unfinished quilt top, showing raw seams on the reverse side with no batting or backing present. The provenance is supported by an accompanying handwritten note identifying the origin as New England.
