Description

62 x 76 This lot consists of several joined antique quilt blocks and fragments, hand-pieced during the late 19th to early 20th century. The blocks feature the Wandering Lover pattern, a geometric design characterized by radiating arms constructed from rows of small triangular units, often called Flying Geese. The materials comprise an assortment of period-correct cotton fabrics, including indigo-dyed calicoes with discharged white patterns, striped and dotted shirtings, red and blue ginghams, and solid madder-toned cotton. The blocks are joined with larger rectangular sections of varying fabrics, and the construction demonstrates traditional hand-stitching techniques. Individual blocks show different color combinations, such as red and white stripes, black and tan solids, and pink and indigo prints.
