Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 197:
Description
66 x 76 This is an unfinished vintage quilt top featuring a repeating pattern of six-pointed stars. Each star is hand-pieced from alternating diamond-shaped segments of solid navy blue cotton and a floral calico print featuring red, yellow, and blue flowers on a white ground. The stars are integrated into a field of white and pale yellow diamond-shaped cotton pieces. The construction is entirely hand-sewn using a running stitch, which is clearly visible on the reverse side along with the seam allowances. The item consists only of the pieced top layer and lacks batting, backing, or binding. The fabrics and pattern are consistent with mid-20th century American quilt-making, likely dating from the 1930s to 1950s.
