Description

68 x 70 This textile is a primitive American quilt top featuring the traditional Log Cabin block pattern. It is constructed from a diverse assortment of fabric scraps, including cotton ginghams, calico floral prints, striped ticking, solids, and denim-style textiles. The construction consists of hand-pieced blocks using a primitive running stitch technique, where fabric strips are layered and stitched around a central square. This piece is a single-layer quilt top or a very lightly backed utility piece without traditional edge binding or heavy decorative quilting. The variety of fabric prints and the construction method suggest a mid-20th century origin.
