Description
This target game is manufactured by Louis Marx and Co. and titled Public Enemy No. 1. It is constructed from pressed lithographed tin with folded edges. The game features a mid-20th-century crime and law enforcement theme. The upper portion displays two Wanted posters for characters named Willie Rascal and Alias the Actor, each assigned a 500-point value. Centered in the upper section is an arched cutout containing a hinged pop-up target depicting a gangster in a green trench coat and fedora holding a pistol in front of a bank, marked with a 1000-point value. The lower half of the board illustrates a police blockade and chase scene titled PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1. It shows law enforcement officers, including one with a Thompson submachine gun, engaging a blue getaway car smashing through a Highway Dept barrier. Scoring circles of 500 and 1200 points are printed across the scene. The Louis Marx and Co. logo, featuring the letters M, A, R, X in a cross-shape within a circle and the word TOYS below, is visible at the bottom center. The reverse of the board is finished in solid red paint and includes a metal bracket for hanging. This board was originally part of a target set designed to be used with a projectile gun, which is not included.
