Description

Produced by The Conestoga Company of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, this Big-Bang toy field cannon is a carbide-fired model, likely the No. 15FC. It is constructed with a cast iron barrel and breech assembly mounted to a pressed steel carriage. The carriage features four treaded black rubber wheels and two wooden handles on the sides for positioning. The entire piece is finished in olive drab paint. The breech is embossed with the markings Big-Bang Patented Other Pats. Pending. A yellow warning label is present on the trail providing safety instructions regarding firing distance and eye safety. The firing mechanism consists of a hopper for calcium carbide and a flint-spark plunger to ignite produced acetylene gas. The hopper lid and firing plunger are present on the breech assembly.
