Description
This is a single-sided embossed metal trade sign for C.H. Pendleton, an optician formerly operating in Rockland, Maine. The sign is constructed from painted and embossed tin or light-gauge steel with a high-contrast yellow and black color scheme. The left side of the rectangular sign features a detailed woodcut-style illustration of a human eye situated above the text Rockland, Maine. The main body of the sign consists of embossed black lettering that reads: C.H. PENDLETON, GRADUATE OPTICIAN. CONSULTATION FREE. OPTICAL PARLORS OVER PENDLETON’S DRUG STORE. A manufacturer mark is present along the bottom right edge, partially obscured by oxidation, which identifies the maker as Decorative Sign Co. Waltham, Mass. The sign contains small pre-drilled mounting holes at each of the four corners. Dimensions: 5.25 inches x 20.25 inches.
