Description
This is a vintage battery-operated toy car manufactured by the Nomura Toy Company (TN) of Japan. The model, identified as the Old Fashioned Car, is constructed primarily of lithographed tinplate with plastic components including the yellow seats, the driver figure’s head and hands, the headlights, and the rear lanterns. The vehicle features mystery action, which is a bump-and-go mechanical movement, along with a jittery vibrating driver and blinking tail lights. A start-stop switch is located on the side of the chassis, and the mechanism is designed to operate on D-cell batteries. The lithography on the rear of the car features the word MYSTERY and a license plate reading J 1901. A graphic of a bulb horn is printed on the side. The toy is accompanied by its original lithographed cardboard box, which bears the TN trademark in a diamond and is marked MADE IN JAPAN. The box graphics include operating instructions and illustrations of the toy in various environments.
