Description
This antique two-door icebox was manufactured by the McKee Refrigerator Company, as confirmed by the original metal plaque affixed to the upper front rail. The cabinet is a single-piece construction made of solid oak with a medium-dark stained finish, showing prominent natural grain patterns. The exterior design features traditional frame-and-panel doors, a molded top edge, and a recessed base. The interior is fully lined with galvanized metal. The upper compartment is designed for ice storage and features a corrugated metal floor to support ice blocks. The larger lower compartment includes two adjustable wire-mesh shelves and a drainage system for meltwater, with a visible floor pipe and exit hole. The unit is fitted with six dark-finished metal strap hinges and two brass-toned, lever-action compression latches. The manufacturer’s plaque specifies the company’s operations in Brooklyn, New York, and Cleveland, Ohio.
